• Focusing on personal art projects

May 2018 marked the beginning of a new artistic chapter in my professional practice.
I am focusing on my art making , collaborations with other artists, businesses, and expanding into science based endeavors. It has been a marvelous 14 years of teaching weekly classes in the studio. I will continue to teach workshops and lead fun loving artventure seeking souls to New Mexico and beyond.

Just the tip of the iceberg.

  • Nature Printmaking Society Workshops

At the end of October you'll find me in Little Switzerland North Carolina at Wildacres Retreat Center right along the Blue Ridge Mountains. Being among such a gifted scientific group is such a treat. Although this year I will be sharing two print techniques collagraph and chine colle with drypoint I will be a student as well.

Don't be surprised if you may catch the whiff of a few trout or octopi wafting from my studio in McKinney. No doubt I will share what I learn with the anglers in the community.

  • Returning to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu NM

September is filled with opportunities. To my surprise I will be returning to Ghost Ranch for two weeks of service and art making. Traveling with a writer friend of mine you never know what collaboration may occur. Ghost Ranch is one of my favorite haunts. I loved leading a workshop there Peace in Action through Printmaking and the Written Word a couple of years ago.

  • Passionate Hearts for McKinney Arts

Happy to be donating a work for this worthwhile event. October 6th at the Eldorado Country club benefiting the Heard Craig Center for the Arts and the Arts and Music Guild. Both entities support the arts through outreach and exposure to the visual and performing arts.

  • Poetry and art together again

Year two of creating an original piece of artwork for the Mockingbird Poetry Society of Dallas. Last year it was in response to Richard Blanco poems. The show of the work will be at the McKinney MPAC center October 8th.
I will keep the poem a secret yet I will say the subject matter dovetails perfectly with my sensibilities.

  • North Texas Printmakers Guild Show

August 22nd through Thursday September 15th at the collin College Gallery at Spring Creek Campus. See this stellar show of fellow print makers I have 6 pieces in the show. Four out of the six were created within August 2016.
The reception is September 1st 4-7PM.

  • City of McKinney owns my art

My prize winning woodcut "One" has been purchased by the City of McKinney for their permanent collection. I must admit this was an image I was sad to see go. The print was created in response to a poem written by Alice Canestaro-Garcia from San Antonio. Happy in the end that it will be enjoyed by many.

  • SO BUSY!!!!!!!

Phew.....lots of exciting projects going on in the studio and beyond.

First off I had the pleasure of working with TUPPS brewery in McKinney designing an original woodblock design for their limited edition craft beer. Soon it will be on the shelves all over the state of Texas. McKinney Imperial Red Rye. The project was such a success I have been asked to create original artwork for two more of their brews.

  • Mixing Art With Poetry

Responding to poetry or any form of written word is a favorite endeavor of mine. Recently I had the pleasure to be asked to choose one or more of Richard Blancos poems to capture visually for the Mockingbird Poetry Society Event in McKinney TX.
I decided to create two responses. One was to his early poem Mail for Mama and his most recent marking the opening of relations with Cuba. It was a heartfelt multi layered push and pull of ideas and imagery within the studio.
Talking to Richard Blanco at the opening he commented that the writing of poetry and process of making a print are very similar. I do agree.

  • Brilliant experiences teaching workshops in Boise

Whiteline and Monotypes two days of intense work and discovery. It is always a pleasure to work with such interesting giving artists. Amy Nack of Wingtip Press is a marvelous person. • Summer a time for travel and two amazing workshops

Burning Bones Press Monoprint/monotype extravaganza with Chine Colle workshop was received well. The two day was filled with very busy artists, pizza from Pinks, great conversation, gallery hopping and two very large work tables filled with freshly made prints. Pleased to see such enthusiasm and the desire to experiment more.

Women Printmakers of Austin Whiteline class went well. To see the works in progress was thrilling. Beautiful. Pictures of both workshops are on my FB page.

NY with family as always is rejuvenating.

  • Return to Mckinney after an active September

Who knew you could carry all of your supplies for two workshops in a large backpack in carry on on 6 flights? Well it is possible. That is thanks to the generosity of Amy Nack at Wingtip Press who had all the Akua Inks one could ever desire at her facility. We made a run to the hardware store and my exacto knife holders were again primed with blades. Amazing security did open my bag a couple of times thinking my brayers were knives. Hmmmm. Go figure.
The two day monoprint/monotype workshop went well. So many talented artists and fun people I would choose to do a residency here. It is a very positive place. My house is peppered with art made by Boise artists.

Charleston Oregon was my next stop to teach a Whiteline course for the Nature Printmaking Society. Beautiful setting, the center for marine biology is a superb facility and the resulting art was amazing. I learned so much from the artists who have focused their energies in bringing attention to nature. Direct and indirect fish printing, printing seaweed and kelp. Everyone dove right in and carved, printed and displayed their work at an evening sharing event. There was so much variety in all of the workshops being taught that week. I will be teaching another workshop with NPS in October 2014 at Wildacres in North Carolina.

  • steamroller print event a success

Texas Pride was my answer to the 7 deadly sin challenge from Print Houston. I have adopted Texas as my home and what better way to celebrate all things Texan than to give a nod to imagry found in Texas Regionalst art. My 3'x5' multicolor woodcut included a mockingbird wearing a Tom Mix hat, a sheriff star, and a pair of custom boots decorated with the Alamo, the state flag, and a yellow rose. The landscape referred to oil ,cactus and extreme weather.
The Houston , and San Antonio artists were wonderful to work with. Over 50 artists participated. Their combined expertise and enthusiasm made the event a success. Looking forward to many projects in the future.

White line printmaking originated in Provincetown Mass in 1915. Followers of Arthur Wesley Dow and the Columbia Teachers College in NYC developed a process that required little expense: Pine boards, a knife, a silver spoon, a selection of watercolor paint and light weight fine papers. The overall style made reference to Japanese and Cubist influences. The subject matter of these prints were consistent with the artists surroundings:landscapes, still lifes, figure studies, town scenes etc. The process has been passed down from one woman printmaker to another. Happily this is a non toxic process easy to produce in a studio. RSVP and payment due June 13th.
